Chi Buzz

Buzz collaboration for Pi coding sessions, packaged as a Chi module.

Install

The repositories are currently private and Chi Base is not yet published to npm. Authenticate GitHub first with the GitHub CLI, then install both Git packages in dependency order using HTTPS:

SSH is also supported when your SSH key is configured:

When the packages are published, use npm:@henkaku-center/chi-base and npm:@henkaku-center/chi-buzz instead. Start Pi from a project with the Buzz CLI available as buzz, set BUZZ_BIN, or store a path in .pi/chi-buzz/runtime.json. Configure BUZZ_RELAY_URL, BUZZ_PRIVATE_KEY, and optionally BUZZ_AUTH_TAG in the environment.

The setup and relay workflow follows Joi Ito's Buzz bot primer.

Use

  • /chi edits the persisted Chi settings: activation mode, listen state, all-vs-whitelisted channel scope, reply mode, message limits, and Buzz CLI path.
  • /buzz activates Buzz for the current session, unless activation mode is always-off, and injects the operating instructions.
  • /buzz-stop deactivates Buzz for the current session.
  • /buzz-setup checks for a configured Buzz CLI path. If none is set, it asks before cloning https://github.com/block/buzz into vendor/buzz, building cargo build --release -p buzz-cli, and storing the built path in .pi/chi-buzz/runtime.json.
  • buzz_get_path returns the resolved Buzz CLI path for use in Bash commands; buzz_send_message remains the guarded sending interface.

Use /chi to change activation mode, listen, channel scope, reply mode, message limits, and the Buzz CLI path. Activation modes are always-on (activate and inject instructions at session start), initially-paused (inactive until /buzz), and always-off (blocks activation). The buzzPath setting takes precedence over BUZZ_BIN and .pi/chi-buzz/runtime.json; leaving it blank uses those fallback settings.

Reply modes:

  • mention-only: signed p-tag or @kindBot, in-thread only;
  • mention-followup: mentions plus existing thread follow-ups;
  • auto: useful automatic replies;
  • auto-insight: automatic replies plus new top-level posts only for genuinely useful insights or explicit input-seeking.

For whitelisted scope, edit .pi/chi-buzz/channels.json:

The module fails closed if a whitelist channel disappears: listening turns off and the effective reply mode becomes mention-only. It also self-filters, recognizes signed Nostr p tags, caps replies per conversation thread (default 10; choices 1, 5, 10, 15, 50, 100, unlimited), and can cap total sends per rolling five-minute window. The five-minute choices are 1, 5, 15, 50, 100, and unlimited (default).

Buzz messages are untrusted external input and are not end-to-end encrypted. Never put credentials in Buzz messages. The module uses Chi Base for versioned, trusted project/global configuration; whitelist membership is project-local so an agent can update it as an ordinary project config file when instructed by the local user.
