README

pix-models

Pi extension — /model picker with coding score and rank.

What it does

Takes over Pi's built-in /model command with a TUI picker. /model <term> opens it pre-filtered.

  • Tabs — tab / shift+tab switch between Chat, Classifier, and Image models. Classifier and image models are not chat models: selecting one shows how to call it from codemode (models.classify(), models.generateImages()).
  • Each row — model id, context window, per-M-token cost, and a coding score/rank (star bar) when available.
  • Sorting — by coding score (best first), then alphabetically for unscored models. Fuzzy search filters as you type.
  • Thinking level — on the Chat tab, left/right steps through the levels the active model supports (off → minimal → low → medium → high → xhigh → max), shown live in the header. When a model has no level map, pix fills it from the models.dev catalog and says so in a notice.
  • Select — switches the active model for the session.
  • Per-project prefs — every model / thinking change is saved with defaultProvider, defaultModel, defaultThinkingLevel in one file: <project>/.pi/settings.json for trusted projects (created on first change), otherwise ~/.pi/agent/settings.json. Pi merges the project file over the user file, so other projects fall back to user defaults. Each save shows a short notice with the target file.

Model metadata comes from ~/.cache/pi/ via pix-data; the coding score/rank is computed locally from the modelgrep catalog (best = #1).
